Recurly Commerce uses your existing Shopify shipping profiles to manage free shipping for subscription orders—no need to create duplicate rules.
Before you begin
-
Your Shopify shipping profiles must be set up under Settings → Shipping and delivery
-
If your Shopify profile already applies to subscriptions, skip the free shipping toggle in Recurly Commerce to avoid conflicts
What does managing shipping profiles mean?
It means using Shopify’s shipping settings to determine how and when free shipping is applied to subscription renewals. Recurly Commerce pulls this information directly from Shopify.
Why use this setup?
-
Avoid creating new rules—just use your existing Shopify setup
-
Control eligibility by country, order value, or quantity
-
Choose if free shipping applies to all renewals or just the first few
How to view your Shopify shipping profiles
-
Go to Settings → Shipping and delivery in your Shopify admin
-
Find the profile you want to use for subscription orders
-
If that profile already applies to subscriptions, do not enable free shipping in Recurly Commerce
How to configure free shipping in Recurly Commerce
-
In Recurly Commerce, go to the Subscription Plans tab
-
Click Edit on the plan
-
Scroll down to the Free Shipping section
-
Toggle Free Shipping on
-
Set your conditions:
-
Countries – Select the regions eligible for free shipping
-
Minimum order amount or quantity – Choose the spend or item count required
-
Applies to – Select whether this applies to All renewals or just the First N orders
Only enable this if your shipping rules for subscriptions are different from your standard Shopify profile.
Note: Customers must have a valid phone number on file in order to change a shipping address.
