How do I create and manage discount codes in Recurly Commerce?

You can use Shopify discount codes with Recurly Commerce subscriptions—no extra setup required. All discount codes are created and managed in Shopify.

• Recurly Commerce imports existing codes but cannot generate new ones

What are discount codes in Recurly Commerce?

These are promo codes created in Shopify that can be applied to subscription contracts in Recurly Commerce. They follow all rules set in Shopify, such as discount amount, product eligibility, and usage limits.

Why use discount codes?

• Give subscribers automatic savings on renewals

• Avoid duplicating setup—create once in Shopify and use in Recurly Commerce

• Apply codes during checkout, through the portal, or manually from the merchant view

How to create a discount code in Shopify

1. Go to the Discounts tab in your Shopify admin

2. Click Create discount (top right corner)

3. Select Amount off order and choose percentage or fixed amount

4. Name the code (avoid special characters like %, $, &)

5. Under Purchase type, choose Subscription or Both

6. Complete the remaining fields and click Save

How to apply a discount code to a subscription

1. In Recurly Commerce, go to the Customers tab

2. Find the subscriber and open their contract

3. Click the Coupon Code button

4. Enter the Shopify discount code exactly as created

5. Click Apply

The code will follow all rules configured in Shopify. You can apply it during the first subscription checkout, through the customer portal, or directly in the Customers tab.
