Understanding the distinction between a coupon's name and its code is important for both internal organization and customer experience.
-
Coupon Name (Internal Name): This is an internal identifier that you can use within your company to easily track and manage different coupon campaigns. This name is never shown to customers unless you specifically choose to include it through the Recurly API or in an email parameter.
-
Coupon Code: This is the actual code that your customers will enter at checkout to redeem the coupon.
Casing and Character Rules: Coupon codes can only contain lowercase alphanumeric characters, '_', '+', and '-'. When you enter coupon codes in the Recurly Admin Console, they will be saved in lowercase, regardless of the case you use during entry. However, your customers can enter the coupon code in either lowercase or uppercase at checkout, and the coupon will still be applied to an applicable purchase.
