Recommended Exports For Granular Tax Data
The complexity of United States sales tax reporting requires detailed geographical data beyond the standard invoice summary. Use a combination of exports to achieve the required level of granularity, especially when using Recurly Subscriptions.
Use The Adjustments Export
The Adjustments Export is the primary source for the line-item details required for granular tax reporting. This export provides the clearest view of transactional activity, including specific tax amounts on individual line items.
Supplement With The Invoices – Summary Export
Use the Invoices – Summary Export to pull core invoice address information. This export contains the billing and shipping addresses, including the State, Postal Code (ZIP), and Country, which are necessary to identify the local tax jurisdiction.
Cross-Reference And Filter Data
After extracting both the Adjustments and Invoices – Summary data, you must perform a manual cross-reference:
Filter the tax amounts from the Adjustments data.
Cross-reference these amounts with the detailed addresses (state, postal code, country) from the Invoice data.
This process allows you to manually calculate and organize the tax collected by the local jurisdiction for compliance purposes.
