How do I edit a subscription plan in Recurly Commerce?

You can update any part of a subscription plan in Recurly Commerce—products, discounts, shipping, add-ons, gifting, and more—without affecting current subscriber contracts.

Before you begin

• You must have at least one live subscription plan to edit

• Only SKUs not already tied to another subscription offer will appear when selecting products

What does editing a subscription plan do?

Editing a plan lets you modify its settings while ensuring existing subscriber contracts remain unaffected. All changes apply to future renewals only.

• No disruption – Active subscriptions continue seamlessly

• Centralized edits – All subscription settings live in one place

How to edit a subscription plan

1. Go to the Subscription Plans section

2. Click the ⋮ menu on the plan and select Edit

Add or remove products

1. Scroll to the Details section and click Edit

2. (Optional) Update the internal name and description

3. Click + Select Products to open your Shopify SKU catalog

4. Check or uncheck boxes to add/remove SKUs

5. Click Confirm, then click Save Changes

Note: Only SKUs not in another subscription offer will appear.

Edit purchase options and discounts

1. In the Options section, click Edit

2. View current purchase modes (e.g., One-time & Subscribe & Save)

3. Reorder display priority by dragging

4. Archive unwanted purchase modes

5. Toggle Add Gift Option on/off

6. Click Save Changes

Edit product swaps and add-ons

1. Scroll to Product Swap and Add-Ons and click Edit

2. Click + Select Products to configure options:

   • Swap: Let subscribers change SKUs at renewal

   • One-Time Add-On: Add extras like gifts

   • Subscription Add-On: Include recurring add-ons

3. Check or uncheck boxes for each SKU

4. Click Confirm, then Save Changes

Edit special discounts

1. Go to the Special Discounts section and click Edit

2. Choose:

   • By Order: Discount the first N orders

   • By Quantity: Discount based on item count

   • Or select None to remove discounts

3. Click Save Changes

Note: Special discounts override cadence discounts until they expire.

Edit free shipping

1. Scroll to Free Shipping and click Edit

2. Toggle Free Shipping on or off

3. Set:

   • Eligible countries

   • Minimum spend or quantity

   • Apply to first order or all renewals

4. Click Save Changes

Important: If your Shopify shipping profiles already include subscriptions, skip this step to avoid conflicts.

Archive a subscription plan

1. On the plan’s card, click the ⋮ menu and select Archive

2. Confirm to move the plan to the Archived tab

Note: Archiving does not cancel current subscriptions; they will continue renewing. Archived plans cannot be reactivated.
