When you need to stop processing new transactions through a payment gateway in Recurly, you have two distinct options: Disabling it or Removing it, depending on your ongoing needs for transaction processing, particularly for refunds.
Disable Gateway
Disabling a gateway is the recommended option if you want to stop new payments but still need the ability to process refunds for older transactions that originally went through that gateway.
Behavior: A disabled gateway will remain visible on the Payment Gateways page in the Recurly Admin Console. It will not accept any new payments, but it retains the capability to process refunds. It also offers the flexibility to be re-enabled later if needed.
How to Disable
- Go to Configuration > Payment Gateways in the Recurly Admin Console.
- Click Options next to the gateway you want to disable.
- Click Edit Gateway
- In the "Gateway Status" dropdown, select Disabled
- Click Update Payment Gateway to save your changes.
Remove Gateway
Removing a payment gateway will permanently delete it from your Recurly site. Once removed, no further transactions (including refunds) will be able to process through it, and it will no longer appear on the Payment Gateways page.
Behavior: The gateway is completely deleted from your site. It will not appear on the Configuration > Payment Gateways page, and no transactions of any kind can be processed through it.
How to Remove
- Go to Configuration > Payment Gateways in the Recurly Admin Console.
- Click Options next to the gateway you want to remove.
- Click Remove Gateway
- Confirm your deletion request by typing DELETE in the text field.
- Click Remove Gateway.
