Coupons rely on precise configuration to apply correctly to specific line items on invoices. A common reason a coupon may not apply to subscription charges on an invoice is how it was configured.
When setting up a coupon in the Recurly Admin Console, it's crucial to distinguish whether you intend for it to apply to charges exclusively from your Items Catalog or to include plan charges. The setting shown in the image below limits your coupon's eligibility strictly to items defined in your catalog:

If this "Yes, apply coupon to item sales only" option is selected, the coupon will only apply if there is an item from your Items Catalog present on the invoice. It will not apply to any subscription charges or add-ons that are not configured as items, because the coupon's application is restricted solely to item sales.
When this option is selected for a coupon, it will be reflected in the Coupon Overview within your Recurly Admin Console.

If your intention is for the coupon to apply to subscription charges, you will need to create a new coupon and ensure that the option to limit the coupon to item sales only is not selected.
